Westview Baptist Church began as a “gleam in the eye” of seventy-six members of First Baptist Church in 1965. First known as Temple Baptist, this group met on September 5 of that year in Nollville, WV under the leadership of Chaplain Fred Duckett. With the purchase of 4.3 acres of land in west Martinsburg across the street from Rosemont Elementary School on September 23, 1965, the congregation adopted the name “Westview Baptist Church.” The Shenandoah Baptist Association accepted Westview for membership on October 15. The church adopted its constitution and by-laws two years later, on August 27, 1967.
Westview held groundbreaking services for new church buildings on May 15, 1966, and dedicated them on January 14, 1967. On June 2, 1974, the church broke ground for a new educational building and occupied it in March 1975. In May 1976, Westview dedicated its “Marion Allesio Memorial Library.” In 1999, Westview completed the construction phase of its “Challenge to Build” program for additional Bible study and fellowship space, including modernized kitchen and dining facilities. In 2004 the much needed new Worship Center was completed. This beautiful facility seats 530 and features modern audio and video technology.
Throughout the years God has called several leaders to serve at Westview Baptist Church. Former Pastors include Lawrence Gill (1966-1967), Thomas D. Jones (1967-1976), David Lavery (1976-1978), Ted Miller (1979-1982), and Malcolm L. Cadd, Sr. (1984-1995) and Johnny A. Kelly (1995-2015). Our current Pastor, Bryan Keith Dugger, has served at Westview since 2000.
