Our Story

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses... let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”

Hebrews 12:1

Welcome to Westview

Established 1965

Westview Baptist Church began in 1965 as a shared vision among seventy-six members of First Baptist Church in Martinsburg, West Virginia. First known as Temple Baptist, this group met on September 5 of that year in Nollville, WV, under the leadership of Chaplain Fred Duckett.

On September 23, 1965, the congregation purchased 4.3 acres of land in west Martinsburg, across the street from Rosemont Elementary School. It was at this time that the name “Westview Baptist Church” was formally adopted. On October 15, Westview Baptist Church was officially accepted into membership with the Shenandoah Baptist Association. The church adopted its constitution and by-laws two years later.

Westview held groundbreaking services for a new church building on May 15, 1966, and dedicated the facility on January 14, 1967.

On June 2, 1974, the church broke ground for a new Education Wing and occupied it in March 1975.

In 1999, Westview completed the construction phase of a “Challenge to Build” program. This project enlarged the existing Fellowship Hall space and modernized the kitchen facilities.

In 2004, a new five-hundred-seat Worship Center was completed.

In 2022, the entire audio/visual system in the Worship Center was updated to accommodate modern needs.
